Video production — how to make a video that sells

Looking for a corporate, product or social video but don't know where to start? This page is a complete guide to making video — from the types brands shoot today, through process and equipment, to how to choose a videographer and what it costs in time and money. Based in Pilsen, shooting across all of Czechia.

What video production is and how to choose it

Video production is the process of making video content — from concept and script through shoot to final post-production. It's not just 'point the camera and roll'. A good videographer helps you sharpen the goal, pick the format, design the visual language and deliver an output that actually works for what it's meant to do.

Key differences between 'I'll just hire a cameraman for a day' and 'I work with a videographer':

  • Strategy — which format, length and style makes the most sense for your goal.
  • Pre-production — script, shot list, location, casting, technical plan.
  • Production — quality image, light, sound. Professional team and gear.
  • Post-production — editing, color grading, sound design, motion graphics.
  • Strategic view — how video fits into the wider marketing campaign (Meta ads, web, brand).

Types of video I regularly produce

Each video type has its own goals, formats, length and approach. Here is an overview of what I do.

Commercial spots

Classic ad spots with a clear call-to-action. For Meta ads, YouTube, OOH displays or online media. Typical length 15-60 seconds, multiple formats (16:9, 9:16, 1:1) for different platforms.

Product video

Video showing the product in action — what it looks like, how it works, how to use it. Crucial for e-shops. Lifestyle, hero shots, detail showcase, how-to content.

Brand film / corporate video

Longer video telling the brand story — who you are, why you do it, what your value is. Suitable for the website (about page), recruitment, investor pitches.

Social campaigns for Meta ads

Short social videos optimised for Facebook and Instagram ads. Reels format (9:16), 15-30 seconds, scroll-stop intro, clear message. I also produce whole batches for A/B testing in Facebook Ads Manager.

Event video

Coverage of conferences, company events, openings. Including aftermovie edits where the whole event becomes a 2-3 minute highlight reel.

Podcasts (video + audio)

Multi-camera podcast production setup (2-3 cameras, pro audio). Including edit and short social clips from the main episode.

Recruitment video

Video showing company culture — who works for you, what the office looks like, why new people should want to join. A key tool for companies competing for talent.

Music videos

Videos for artists and bands. Storytelling, narrative or performance-based, drone shots, custom color and mood matched to the track.

Explainer / how-to video

Short video (60-120 seconds) explaining what you do or how your product works. Often a combo of footage with motion graphics.

Process — from script to final delivery

A good video project has clearly separated phases. Without a clear process, you end up shooting things nobody uses.

  • 1. Brief and concept: We cover the video goal, audience, key message, format and where it'll be shown. Style and length emerge from that.
  • 2. Pre-production: Script or shot list, casting (if needed), locations, props, technical plan. You approve.
  • 3. Shoot: Shooting with a professional team and gear. Typically 1 shoot day, larger projects 2-3 days.
  • 4. Rough cut: First version we go through together. Comments, edits, direction approval.
  • 5. Color grading + sound design: Fine-tuning colors, sound, optionally motion graphics and titles.
  • 6. Final export: Delivery in all required formats — 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Reels and Meta ads, 1:1 for feed, plus a 4K master if needed.

Equipment and team — what 'professional production' means

'Professional production' is a term everyone uses differently. Here's specifically what stands behind that phrase with me.

Camera and lenses

Cinema camera and premium lenses. Image quality at the level of commercials and music videos — not a DSLR from 2015. I shoot 4K but most projects export Full HD (enough for web, less waste).

FPV drone and classic drone

Licensed drone pilot. Classic aerial shots (4K drone) for establishing shots + FPV drone for dynamic moves through spaces, around products or in action.

Light and sound

LED panels, modifiers, soft boxes. For sound, lavalier and shotgun mics recording to an external recorder — no cameraman jack audio.

Post-production

DaVinci Resolve for edit and color, After Effects for motion graphics, ProTools/Audacity for sound post. Color grading on a calibrated monitor.

Team

For smaller projects I work alone as director + DOP + editor. For larger I bring professionals — 2nd camera, gaffer, sound engineer, assistants. Always team "to fit" by scope.

Where I shoot — Pilsen, Prague, all of Czechia

Based in Pilsen (Plzeň, DEPO2015, Presslova 16), but I shoot across the whole Czech Republic. Travel is a standard part of video production — I come to you wherever it makes sense.

  • Base: Pilsen (Plzeň) — DEPO2015, Presslova 16, where I have studio and post-production setup.
  • Main shoot areas: Pilsen, Prague, Pilsen and Central Bohemian regions.
  • Travel: Anywhere in Czechia — Brno, Ostrava, Liberec, you name it. Travel within Pilsen and Prague is included; for shoots elsewhere I only charge actual costs, transparently communicated in advance.
  • Outside Czechia: By arrangement also abroad — if a project requires shooting in Europe or further.

Short social video vs classic ad spot — when which

One of the most common questions: shoot a short reels format, or a classic 30-second spot? It depends on goal, platform and audience.

Short social videos (Reels, Meta ads 9:16)

  • Goal: brand awareness, traffic to the site, retargeting.
  • Length: 15-30 seconds, scroll-stop intro in the first 2 seconds.
  • Distribution: Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, Meta ads campaigns.
  • Strategy: produced in batches (5-10 variants) for A/B testing in Facebook Ads.
  • Tone: faster cuts, dynamic motion, clear CTA.

Classic ad spot (16:9, 15-60 seconds)

  • Goal: storytelling, brand awareness, deeper product/service showcase.
  • Length: 15, 30 or 60 seconds — standard formats.
  • Distribution: YouTube, website (hero video), pre-roll campaigns.
  • Strategy: one flagship spot, supported by shorter derivatives.
  • Tone: slower pace, room for emotion, visual storytelling.

Best practice in 2026: don't make just one video, make a whole family — a flagship spot for web and YouTube + 5-10 derivatives for Meta ads in Reels format. From one shoot day we produce material for the whole campaign.

I'll prepare your quote — free, within 24 hours

Video production has many variables — video type, length, number of shoot days, location, drone, number of final exports, post-production complexity. So I don't have a fixed pricelist.

Send me a short enquiry via form or email. A brief is enough: what you want to shoot, when, where and what the goal is. Within 24 hours I'll get back with a free consultation and price proposal. No obligation.

FAQ — Video

Common questions about video production

How quickly will I get a price quote?

After a short enquiry (form or email), I'll get back within 24 hours with a free consultation and price proposal. I just need a short brief — what you want to shoot, when, where and what the goal is.

What do you need from me before the first call?

You don't need a perfect brief. Just have a rough idea of three things: the video goal (sales, brand awareness, recruitment...), where it'll be shown (Meta ads, web, YouTube), and when it should be ready. Everything else we figure out together.

What if I don't have a concept or script?

No problem. Concept and script I can come up with based on the brief — that's part of the process, not an extra service. Many clients come with a vague idea that we turn into a specific video together.

How many revision rounds are included?

Standard is 2 revision rounds. Each round = one consolidated list of changes I process at once. More rounds are possible at an hourly rate — always transparent.

Do you shoot on location at the client?

Yes, most shoots are at the client — offices, shops, warehouses, restaurants, outdoors. Travel within Pilsen and Prague is included; for shoots elsewhere I only charge actual travel costs, transparently in advance.

What output formats will I receive?

Standard delivery is 16:9 for YouTube/web, 9:16 for Reels and Meta ads, optionally 1:1 for feed. 4K or Full HD depending on the project. Master file for later editing on request.

What music is used and how do licenses work?

I exclusively use licensed music from Artlist, Musicbed or Epidemic Sound. The license covers commercial use on websites and social media and is included in the project price — you can publish and boost the video without restrictions.
